Shapings should also sell these shear brands if possible

  • I have bought my fair share of sheer pantyhose from shapings and they are great priced but i have some other brands i cant get on shapings and would like to mention them as you never no they might try and get them in stock. They might not be possible but i can only ask.

Calzedonia make some really smooth pantyhose like my 15 denier second skin in nude 8. In pic

Also marilyn brand have some luvly 10 denier pantyhose make up 10 which are luvly.

Falke brand are expensive but make some exellent sheer pantyhose and maybe shapings could make some great deals and save us some money lol you never know.

  • @s j Thank you for your suggestions and for sharing your pantyhose experience here on our forum.   There are so many brands out there and we find that some products overlap with characteristics, it's tough to decide who we should carry and manage.

I beleive the Calzedonia brand is only for them and they do not sell to retailers as it is it's own retailer.     We had some samples from Marilyn  sent to us about 10 years ago and had found some issues with their knitting.   One pair of tights had their boarding twisted so the seams on the toes were side ways to how the legs were positioned which caused the legs needing to be twisted 90 degrees in order for the toe seams to be positioned properly.

Falke is very expensive and we had dealt with expensive brands in the past, Fogal and Gerbe.  We end up discounting them due to low sales.   We have found a very happy medium with Girardi.  They actually use the same yarns as Wolford for half the cost.   Give the SummerLight 5's a try and get back to me :)

  • @Robert Safko Well, my friend, you convinced me! Just made a big order (for me) of some Girardi styles.  I believe I've tried them in the past and liked them.  I'm on the edge of the fit, being perhaps too tall, but hopefully they'll fit!

  • @Robert Safko @hunterloveshose

Thanks Robert for that little bit of inside industry information...'Girardi uses the same yarns as Wolford'.  So far, I've only worn and tried a pair of Girardi stockings--Chantal 15 in Nero, and quite like them.  I have them on rotation currently with several other styles from different brands that I also find quite beautiful.

But I have 5 pairs of Girardi tights that I haven't yet opened.  I guess I'm saving them for something special given their slightly higher price than some of the other brands and styles I often wear for evenings out.  One pair in particular look really seductive and alluring, in my way of thinking.  They are called, Feeling 15, and the style comes with a cuban heel and a faux seam up the back of the legs.  I'm going to have fun with those one night out in a gorgeous pair of Casadei stilettos.  I only hope I can get those pesky seams to line up nicely.

Do let us all know, Hunter, which styles you've ordred and any initial impressions.  I hope they are long enough to fit.  I can't speak to fit, as I've not tried any of the pantyhose yet.  Besides, I'm a lot shorter  than you probably are, so anything I could share might likely not be useful to someone of your height.  I'm only 5'5" or 165 cm.

  • Thanks @Carrie Stuart   It may take a while for me to get through them for an initial impression.  I'm pretty sure I won't try them all at once.

    Here is what I ordered.

(I wish the Shapings order history interface mentined the Brand of the hoisery, not just the model/style.)

    - Activ 40

I don't order higher than 30 denier hosiery often, and never control or support styles, but curiosity crept in.

    - Elegance 10
    - Fascino 30
    - Printemps 10
    - Summer Light 5
    - Top 8 (I think I've had these before)
    - Vogue 15

  • @hunterloveshose Thanks Hunter.
I'd never expect anyone to "try on" all pairs they've ordered.  That would be a bit silly, wouldn't it? LoL.  I meant that in the sense of keeping us informed, if you remember, as you work your way through most of your order.  Any impressions are always appreciated, I think.  There are very few reliable first hand reviews of specific products on-line.  And a lot of these so-called "influencers" are often rewarded by the brand or retailer they've received the product(s) from.  They're likely not exactly impartial.

I always keep mine in their packages until I need, or want, to use them.  Occasionally, I'll open up a pair to have a look at them in my hands, but I never try them on.  I do that mostly to get a better sense of the exact shade/colour compared to a skirt I might pair with them.  Then, I try to fold them exactly how they came, and slip them carefully back into their original packaging.  I love trying new and different styles and brands that I'm not familiar with.  From that, come new favourites, and different combinations I can choose for various outfits and high heels.

You and I have purchased the same style in one of your listed choices.  Elegance 10.  I bought 2 pairs of them, in slightly different shades, but haven't worn either pair, yet.  I bought them in The (tea) and Dore (golden).  I think Ill be saving the The shade for when I have more of a tan on my legs and body.  It's quite a bit deeper than Dore.
I looked at Vogue 15, too, when I decided to include some Girardi products in a previous order, but I've worn micro fibre before and didn't really like their feeling.  At least, not the ones I tried way back when.  They felt way too clingy and not slippery enough to the touch.  I'd be very curious about your thoughts on those ones in particular.  Apart from how they might feel, they very much look like something I'd love to wear.  The photos are quite attractive, and look very close to other styles I currently wear.  The Top 8 style also contains microfibre.

Hoping they arrive soon, and they fit you well.  I just noticed that the sizing chart for taller or heavier people tends to be a bit unforgiving.  But, perhaps, the higher lycra/elastane content in most, you maybe get a bit more stretch than what the charts indicate for sizing.  I had to buy mine in size 3, but I wear a size 2 in Trasparenze, for example.  A 2 would definitely be too small in Girardi if I can rely on the sizing chart.

  • @Carrie Stuart I keep my hosiery well organized and in original packaging as well. As someone who loves shopping for new hosiery and trying on new hosiery, always looking for that new perfect pair, keeping a well organized collection is vital. And I too often open up the packaging, put my hands through the material for an initial impression (feeling, color) of the hose and fold them up, and put them back as they were.  Here is an older post on this forum showing how I keep my hose:

    https://www.shapings.com/community/forum/topic/73148/storing-hosiery#post-157084

In fact, I bought that file cabinet just for my hosiery collection because the hosiery packages can be seen (front facing) and sifted through, organized easily.  I've added external key latch locks too, to keep prying eyes away if ever we have house guests in my office or I'm self conscious when our house cleaners come.

Sadly, I purged a lot of my collection a couple years ago, but kept the expensive brands and a lot of styles I wear the most so it's just two drawers of hosiery.  There was a couple year period recently where I was very busy, and riding my bicyles a lot and neglected to keep my legs shaved, etc etc.  Feel like now I'm getting back into wearing now that life seems to have settled down, and frankly I miss it too much other wise.

The other two drawers are filled with bicycle clothing actually. As a daily cyclist, I have practically two complete wardrobes: pedesitran and cyclist... though you could say my hosiery collection would be a third wardrobe, though I do wear hosiery with pedestrian clothes when appropriate, or able to.

So, I'm lacking a bit of reference on styles I've tried, like the Girardi in the past from the purge.  I had started a database of my hosiery and review impressions, but it turned out to be more work than I wanted.  However, I might restart that, as I'm currently between active employment, after all  I am a software engineer by trade (jack of many interests to be honest).

As to microdibre I generally love them.  I tend to love matt hosiery the best, but I do like the fit of 3D/micro/nanofibre hosiery. They tend to stay in place, and there are some styles that are silky and glide well.  Le Bourget had a delicious 30 denier that was great for instance. Le Bourget Heritage Luxe 30.  Again, rare for me to go 30 denier but these were fantastic and I should have snatched up more. Alas, they're no longer made.  And like you, I don't wear or prefer black that much. Prefer the nudes or tan to darker skin tones.

Once again @Carrie Stuart your enthusiam for hosiery varieties and advice and experience are next to none and always a pleasure to compare notes.   AND yes, I'll keep a detailed record of the Girardi styles. They arrive in a couple days.

  • NHD!  New hose day.  Picture, ala @Carrie Stuart style. But sorry for the glare, and I don't have a cool watermark like she does.

With the chat around this, the anticipation is high. I LOVE the photography Girardi has on the packaging.  Very classy.  Can't wait to try them!   Report coming soon.

    Girardi Galore
    The box

  • @hunterloveshose WooHoo!  LoL...And you even received them in a Girardi box!!  Love it!
Nice photos, glare notwithstanding, of course. 😋  Ever wonder why studio photographers use umbrellas and softboxes when they shoot product and glamour portrait work?  SOFT light, is why.  Biggest challenge is shooting a shiny product (or face with not enough powder on it) while keeping the specular highlights down.  I know that @Robert Safko absolutely knows about that challenge!  You just can't shoot something that is shiny with hard undiffused light.  But that's an entire photography lesson all in itself!  How can a softwear engineer NOT have a cool watermark?  LoL  Just bugging you. 😜

Nice collection!  So excited for you!  Is that weird of me?  LoL...I know the feeling too well when a Shapings delivery has got me anticipating how much fun it's going to be the next time I step out on the town in a beautiful pair I've never worn before.  One of life's wonderful pleasures.  I even posted about a while ago when I had received Shapings delivery that I'd been excited to see arrive at my door.

What pair do you think you'll break out and try first?  Let us all know.  😄

Those Girardi Activ 40 (top left corner photo) look like they'd be perfect for a night out at the theatre under a black medium length skirt with a long side slit, that I have, and some gorgeous black patent 4 inch stilettos of which I have several pairs to choose from.  Those pantyhose are so elegant  and comfortable looking.

  • A bit of a follow up:

    - Vogue 15 Pantyhose
    - Top 8 Pantyhose
I have to say, I love these microfiber hose the best of the bunch. They fit well.

I found the other hose with the traditional nylon/lycra blend (non microfiber) to be just a tad on the rough side, but not bad.

    - Elegance 10 Pantyhose are sublime and wonderful. Again, not the softest of nylons I've worn before, but the reinforced toe is gorgeous.

And, all the Girardi pantyhose have beautiful seams with the nice consistent front and rear seams down the panty having a uniform wavy reinforcement that is quite attractive and shows attention to detail.

    - Fascino 30 are another really nice microfiber semi-opaque hose that felt great, and I'd love to wear these out and about with shorts even in guy mode. I think I can pull that off, as long as it's paired well with nice shorts, shirt.  I have to balance my delight in finding great hosiery that I want to wear and the pride in them, without being inapporpriate -- meaning wearing them genuinely cause I'm glad they exist. lol

    - Activ 40.  I knew this would probably be the case, but not a lot of give in these hose. I wish they were microfiber, and they'd be more comfortable.  Not to compare apples and orange, but one of my favorite 40 deniers are Wolford Comfort Cut which they don't make anymore. I snatched as many pairs of them as I could.  But had wonderful give, great look on the legs and again felt confident in guy mode in them;  tights, a hint of sheerness for a guy, but it's obvious I enjoy them so I think the world treated me okay.

    - Summer Light 5 Pantyhose. I like these quite a bit. Very delicate of course, but I'd wear them sparingly on a hot day I think.

    - Printemps 10 - didn't try these yet, but they look good.

Overall, I'd give Girardi a 8+ out of 10 in the styles I tried, compared to similar other hosiery from other manufacturers. HOWEVER, the quality is high, consistence and the packaging and being able to reuse them (the packages logically fold open, and the plastic flap is easily reusable and the packaging slides easily in.)    They do make great microfiber styles, and I may get more of the Top 8 and Vogue 15

  • @hunterloveshose Wow, Hunter!  You must have put on a fashion show to be able to try on as many styles as you did.  Way to go...that in itself can be a delicate and intricate process demanding finesse at every turn.  Well done.  😀👍
Something I just remembered about my experience in microfibre hosiery...Do you, or did you, find that microfibre can be challenging to get to sit properly on your legs?  By that I mean, do you ever find that microfibre shows colour density issues if or when not uniformly stretched or positioned with even tension up the length of your legs?  I hope I was able to explain what I mean by that.  I find that there are sometimes areas that are darker when there's more fabric that has accumulated in a specific area, and they tend to be more sheer in other parts that receive more tension from ones body.  I don't usually find that to be as noticeable with non-microfibre pantyhose, but always seem to have to pay more attention to getting them equally stretched out along my legs when they are microfibre.  It's primarily more noticeable in darker shades.

Thank you for your thoughts and description on the Elegance 10s.  I mentioned I have 2 brand new pairs in different shades that I have yet to break open to wear.  I guess I didn't want to simply "use" them for an innocuous pub dinner/wine night out last summer.  I'll be waiting a few months, I think, until the temperatures up here in the Great White North warm up substantially, and for a time when I have both a fresh mani and pedi, so as to minimize any potential damage to such seemingly sheer and fragile hosiery.  I don't need my hosiery to be as soft as velvet to the touch.  I just need it to be not rough or the type that picks up all kinds of little nicks and pulls for no apparent reason.  I'm pretty sure Girardi Elegance 10s will be a delight to my senses on a warm summer evening out.

8+ out of 10 is a pretty high mark where I come from.  My dad always rewarded me monetarily for every 80% or better I scored in any subject on my report cards, as a high school kid.  That's pretty darn close to excellent, in my books.  And from someone who has extensive experience and knows quality like you do, I'll take your recommendations at face value of the overall quality that you assign to this brand.  Thank you for doing the "leg" work on this review.  LoL...sorry...I couldn't help myself.  Low hanging fruit. 😋

  • @hunterloveshose

Pantyhose is like fingerprints, there are millions out there and not one being the same.   Thank you for your feedback and review of the Girardi styles.   Pantyhose is very personal and we all look for styles and brands that give us that wow factor for us personally.

Our extensive collection is a result of having these multiple "wow" factors for many people's tastes.     I once asked someone, what would be the ultimate pair of pantyhose that could be produced for you if you had every aspect covered in that design.  From yarn texture, to toe design, waist height, gusset, seams, finish etc.     They were pressed to come up with something concrete and realized that we have many choices to wear that brings joy and comfort to our legwear experiences.

Happy wearing and thank you for adding to our forum.

    Robert
